Sammy Pool

Hi my name is Sammy Pool and I am from Denver, Colorado. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I enjoy art, concerts, thrifting, and anything to do with music. These pieces are inspired by all of the wonderful women in my life who have helped me become the person I am today.

Artist Statement:

These pieces are portraits of femininity; I selected elements from classical pieces that showcase the female experience and placed them in different environments in order to redefine what it means to experience womanhood. I used collage as a medium, sourcing material from various art history books, magazines, and maps. To make the pieces, I layered different images in order to create compositions that illustrate my own perception of what it means to be a woman. I feel that these pieces are important to display on campus because there aren’t many spaces designed to showcase art and femininity, and I wanted to bring this piece of myself and womanhood into a traditionally male dominated space.
