Biography

Dr. Dharmraj Kotekar Patil received his B.S. and M.S. in Physics from the University of Mumbai, India, and his Ph.D. in Physics from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany. He held research positions at the University of Pittsburgh, CEA Grenoble, and A*STAR Singapore before serving as an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Arkansas and Network Coordinator for the MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry. He joined the Department of Physics at Colorado School of Mines in 2026.

His research seeks to uncover how the crystal structure and atomic arrangement of novel quantum materials give rise to distinctive electronic, spin, and topological properties and how these properties can enable new quantum technologies. His Quantum Materials and Devices (QMAD) group fabricates nanoscale devices that reveal the intrinsic quantum behavior of these materials through measurements at ultralow temperatures and high magnetic fields. A central question that guides this work: can the unique properties of emerging quantum materials overcome the limitations of today’s leading quantum hardware platforms? By connecting fundamental materials discoveries with device engineering, his lab aims to identify new pathways toward quantum devices with improved coherence, control, and scalability.
