Biography
The Zhang Group investigates quantum phenomena in solid-state devices, with a focus on superconducting quantum circuits, quantum defects, and nanomechanics. We develop quantum circuits and precision measurement techniques to probe and control microscopic degrees of freedom, including atomic defects, spins, and mechanical excitations.
Our research seeks to understand the microscopic origins of decoherence in quantum devices and to develop new types of qubits by harnessing interactions between different quantum degrees of freedom. This research is informed by Zhang’s prior work on solid-state color centers, including optical spectroscopy, single-emitter imaging, and electron spin resonance, which provides a microscopic perspective on defects and their interactions with quantum devices.
Before joining Colorado School of Mines, Zhang was a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, Berkeley.
We are actively recruiting master’s and PhD students. Prospective students and collaborators are encouraged to reach out or visit our group website for more information.
