Research Area

  • Bulk metal deformation processes, including forging and sheet metal forming
  • Effects of processing on microstructure, properties, and performance

Technical Focus

My background is in physical and mechanical metallurgy research and development, with interests including hands-on improvement and analysis of metal thermal- and deformation-processing methods and the use of experimental and modeling techniques to examine the effect of material processing history and microstructure on mechanical properties and performance.  Research areas include a variety of bulk metal deformation processes, including hot and cold forging, sheet forming, and thermomechanical processing of metal products.  Before joining the Faculty at CSM, I have worked for metallurgical consulting firms, in industrial manufacturing, and as a research engineering at a national laboratory, and I will work to bring some outside experience to my teaching and research efforts with the Advanced Steel Processing and Products Research Center.  Currently, my teaching includes a senior undergraduate/graduate course in the forging and forming of metals, and an undergraduate introductory course in engineered materials.
