RESEARCH AREA

  • Physical metallurgy, structure/property relationships on ultra-high strength steel
  • Deformation and phase transformation mechanism of structural materials
  • Nano-/micromechanical approaches including nano-indentation and micro-pillar tests

TECHNICAL FOCUS

My main research interest is physical metallurgy in ultra-high strength steel. One of my accomplishment is the development of a physically-based model describing the relationship between the microstructure and the mechanical properties of ultra-high strength multiphase quenched and partitioned steel.

Previously, I studied the micro-plasticity of ultra-high strength steels by means of nano-indentation testing and micro-pillar compression testing of the ultra-fine grained phases in the multiphase steel. I was also involved in the research on the in-situ observation of nano-twinning and phase transformations during tensile straining of ultra-high strength multiphase steel.

I am currently focusing on the effect of micro-alloying elements on the microstructure and mechanical properties of thermo-mechanically processed medium carbon bar steels.
