Eligibility & Rates - Temporary Employees
Temporary employees include the following job profiles: Graduate Students, Research Hourly, Visiting Scholar-Hourly, Temporary Faculty-Non Academic, Temporary Faculty-Non Academic Exempt, Temporary Non-Faculty, and Temporary-Non-Faculty(hourly).
Eligibility
- An average of 30 or more hours worked per week measured over the employee’s applicable one year measurement period.
- Employee must enroll in both a medical and dental plan.
- Coverage is available for qualified dependents of the employee including a spouse, child(ren), civil union partner, child(ren) of civil union partners or common-law spouse.
- If you obtain a J1 Visa, Mines currently offers one medical plan that meets the required eligibility.
Effective Date of Coverage
- 1st of the month following a 31-day administrative period.
Termination of Coverage
- Benefits will remain active through the last day of the month in which you separate from Mines or experience a loss of eligibility. Following the separation or loss of coverage, a COBRA notice will be issued to you. You will receive this via post mail, and it will have an effective date of the 1st of the month following the separation/loss of coverage. If you choose to elect COBRA, you will then work with the COBRA administrator directly.

- Premiums are deducted monthly and semi-monthly and catch-up payments may be required depending on time of enrollment and processing of payroll.
