EMERGENCY / SERVICE OUTAGE MEMORANDUM

To: Innovation Shop, GRL, Volk and Steinhauer Occupants

Outage Date: May 16, 2023
Outage Time:
• First outage @ 7:30 – 8:00am
• Second outage @ 3:30 – 4:00pm
• Innovation Shop will not have power all day.
Purpose: To install the permanent transformer at the Innovation Shop
System(s) Involved: Electrical power
Effect(s) on Occupants: There will be no power, lights, heating or cooling for two 30-minute periods during the outage. Please turn all computers off and make the necessary preparations as this outage will also affect lab equipment, etc.
All occupants are requested to leave the building during these outage times. Authorized individuals may remain if necessary for monitoring labs.
There will be no laboratory exhaust ventilation due to the electrical work. To prepare for this shutdown you will need to:
• Cease all work with chemicals during the outage.
• Shut down experiments that generate hazardous contaminants (particulates, dust, ozone, etc.) and heat.
• Close all chemical containers and properly store them, including those within the laboratory hoods.
• Verify your waste containers are closed.
• Submit full waste containers for waste pickup.
• Close/lower the sash on your chemical hood.
• Close all gas cylinder valves except for inert gases such as nitrogen and argon.
