JOSEPH BRIGGS
PhD Program, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering
After graduating from University of Florida I taught High School Physics and Chemistry in Liberia, West Africa, with the United States Peace Corps. That experience is what lead me to want to return to obtain my Ph.D. to become a professor one day.
Coming from a Chemical Engineering background I would like to participate in the Quantum Engineering NSF Research Traineeship to deepen my understanding in the fundamentals of quantum engineering and applications of quantum information; as well as, take part in the parts of the program that will help shape me as a researcher, like the professional development and collaboration with national labs. I am excited by the focus put on diversity, research ethics, and communication in addition to the scientific knowledge I will gain through the program.
In my pastime I like to be outdoors; coming from Florida I love to be in and around the ocean and am dive master. I have traded beach for mountains but now love hiking and snowboarding. I’ve also traveled/worked in 36 countries across 6 continents.
