Helpful Scheduling Information

Scheduling Conflicts

If a student has a scheduling conflict, such as extended time overlaps with another class, the student needs to schedule the exam for a time preferably within three (3) business days but up to 5 days after for extenuating circumstances. In-class exams cannot be taken in its entirety prior to the regularly scheduled exam time.

When scheduling a quiz or exam outside of the regularly scheduled exam time, students should do the following:

    • Contact their faculty to coordinate an alternative exam time, and
    • Submit an exam request through AIM and leave a note describing the scheduling conflict and that you have professor approval in the Additional Notes section of the request. If there is no note, this may delay the process for approving the exam request.

Common hour exams

Regular common hour exam times are from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. All students have an end time of 8:30 pm.

Students who have extended time will need to enter the correct start time to end at 8:30 pm when submitting a common hour exam request:

1.5x (50% extended time) =
6:15 pm

2.0x (100% extended time) =
5:30 pm

“exams completed prior to X:XX” accommodation

Students with this accommodation need to schedule their common hour exams for a day/time after the regularly scheduled exam between 8am and 5pm Monday-Friday; preferably within three (3) business days but up to 5 days for extenuating circumstances.

Final Exams

The MTC follows the Registrar Final Exam Policy:
Students who will have conflicts with the final exam schedule,  have three or more exams or more than 6 hours of testing on the same day, may request an alternate day. The instructor of the highest numbered course is required to grant relief (e.g., an alternate time during exam week). Student needs to communicate with their instructor. If arrangements are made for a make-up exam, this information must be included in the Additional Note text box in the exam request.

Students with extended time who have two final exams in the same day:
Students in this situation can discuss with their instructors to spread the exams out between 8 am and 9 pm to allow a break between exams. When selecting a different start time from the regularly scheduled final exam, you must include a note explaining why in the Additional Note text box of the exam request.

Students with the “exams completed prior to X:XX” accommodation:
If a student’s final exam is scheduled to end later than the time listed in their accommodation, the student will need to discuss an alternate time with their instructor. Student must note they have professor approval in the Additional Note text box in the exam request.

When the regular final exam is scheduled from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm:
– Students with 1.5x extended time will begin at 6:00 pm
– Students with 2.0x extended time will begin at 5:00 pm
