Message to students: Stay close and safe for Fall Break—In a message to students earlier today, Provost Rick Holz and Vice President of Student Life Dan Fox encouraged students to make the most of the upcoming Fall Break—right here in Golden. Many campus amenities will remain open Oct. 19 and 20, and SAIL is working with student clubs to organize events for students who stick around campus. “The ‘Mines bubble’ is proving to be one of the safer places to be right now,” they wrote. Read the full message on the Mines Climbs Together website.

Third two-week snapshot shows another decline in positivity rate, but three new cases reported—Mines’ COVID-19 dashboard was updated this week to include our third two-week snapshot, as well as a new weekly count of cases. The latest snapshot, for the last half of September, shows the positivity rate has declined in each of the two-week cycles since testing began. Just one new case was reported between Sept. 14-25. However, three new cases emerged on the last two days of the month, resulting in two new quarantines (in Spruce and Randall halls) yesterday—and the temporary move to takeout-only for Mines Market, which will reopen its dining room for dinner tonight. There are just four active COVID-19 cases on campus as of this afternoon.

Mines students, chairs and masks wind up in The New York TimesMask-wearing Mines students, along with a masked cartoon Blaster (see yard sign), showed up Wednesday on The New York Times app. While Mines has continued to report its COVID-19 numbers to the Times, we didn’t appear in the accompanying story. But that didn’t keep editors from using an Associated Press photo of our campus—and those hard-to-miss Adirondack chairs—in its coverage.
