Juneteenth (the 19th of June) was established as a national holiday in 2021 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. Through recent action of Colorado’s Legislature, and with Governor Polis’ concurrence, Juneteenth is now also a state holiday and President Johnson announced that Mines will recognize this holiday beginning in June 2022.

What does this mean for the Vacation/Sick Leave calendar?

Juneteenth will be reflected on the leave calendar on June 20th. If you do not take June 20th as holiday leave, you must work with your supervisor to agree on an alternate date, however you will leave your Vacation/Sick calendar submission as “present” on that day.
