Orediggers are engineered for what comes next

The formula for a lifetime of opportunities starts with the right elements. At Mines, you’ll gain the knowledge, experiences and connections that open doors now and throughout your entire career.

The Mines Advantage intentionally pairs technical rigor with professional skill development, backed by a powerful STEM network of alumni, faculty and mentors. You’ll become part of a community built through meaningful traditions and shared experiences.

Orediggers apply their technical skills in real-world contexts both inside and outside of the classroom through competition teams, entrepreneurship opportunities and creative outlets. The result? Engineers and scientists who take pride in solving problems, adapting and making an impact from day one and every chapter that follows.

Taking Ideas to Reality: The Signature Student Experience

At the core of your student experience at Mines is an integrated ecosystem of coursework, facilities and programs designed to help you take ideas to reality. From rigorous academics to immersive, hands-on learning, Mines creates an entrepreneurial environment where theory is applied, challenges are real and solutions matter.

Gaining a Professional Advantage: We Engineer the Entrepreneurially Minded Engineer

Mines ranks among the top three public universities in the nation for 40-year return on investment (Georgetown). This is where STEM talent becomes character-driven leaders, and where career readiness is accelerated. After graduating, the skills and entrepreneurial mindset you developed at Mines will help you lead in your chosen field, creating real value from day one, compounding over decades.

Where Nerds Win

At Mines, competition isn’t about outdoing one another; it’s about climbing together. Orediggers succeed at the highest levels, from NCAA Division II athletics, including the most Academic All-Americans in Division II history, to national and international engineering and design competitions in areas like space systems, robotics and rocketry. On the field, in the lab and at the launch site, Mines students know that winning is powered by teamwork.

Well-Rounded by Design: Character-Driven Leadership

Curiosity extends beyond coursework into creative expression, service and shared experiences that build perspective and character. Mines students pursue a wide range of interests, from performing on stage and writing poetry to volunteering across Colorado and contributing meaningfully to their communities. Orediggers are collaborative, community-minded and well-rounded, pairing technical rigor with creativity, empathy and purpose.

I chose to come to Mines because of the difficulty and rigor of the school coupled with the small community feel of the campus. There are not many high level engineering schools that focus only on STEM majors and prioritize a low student to faculty ratio. This allowed me to create deep connections with both my classmates and professors while at Mines. The community that Mines creates made me feel accepted and supported throughout my undergraduate degree. Mines operates as a whole instead of a battlefield, providing support when necessary and challenges always.

I think the connections Mines has makes you achieve things at a higher level. Working in industry and getting to participate in industry research—or even research at Mines—gives you hands-on experience of what it’s going to be like in the workplace. One of the most valuable things Mines does for us is it sets us up to be in industry and gives us opportunities to work with Lockheed Martin or Sierra Space or other really great companies. And that’s ultimately the end goal, right?
