Access Services

Access to Buildings, Offices, Rooms, and Labs

  • You will use the FAMIS work order system for hard key/BlasterCard request.
  • Business hours access
    • Academic buildings, labs and classrooms: contact your department
    • Events related issues
    • Residential lockouts: see your Resident Advisor
  • After-hours access/emergency
    • Academic buildings, labs, and classrooms: contact Public Safety at 303-273-3333
  • Duplicate keys are not allowed for any reason or at any time
  • Residence Hall Access:
    • Access to Residential Halls will be handled by Residence Life
    • Mines Park Apartments
    • Residence Halls and Greek Houses owned by Mines
    • 1750 Jackson St. Residences: If you do not have a BlasterCard, then you will be able to get one at the BlasterCard office

Key Returns

  • Upon graduation or permanently leaving Mines, keys must be returned or transcript requests will be withheld until keys are returned or fines paid.
  • Transferring keys is strictly prohibited under any circumstance.
  • Lost or Stolen Key Report Form

Service Requests Using FAMIS

  • FAMIS service requests
  • BlasterCard access or keys to specific spaces/labs
  • Door lock issues
  • BlasterCard readers
  • Door hinges, latching, closing, opening, etc. issues
  • Door weather seals, door closer, etc.

Contractors

  • Contact your Project Manager for keys and card access.
  • Return hard keys/BlasterCards to the Lock Shop in McNeil Hall/Parking Garage in the key return drop-box or staff
  • Construction remodels/standards for door hardware and Campus Wiring Diagram Standards

Building Proctor Information

There are only two proctors (per campus policy) per department. Each proctor manages BlasterCard access and hard keys for their buildings and controlled areas and approves release of key(s) for their controlled spaces via FAMIS.

  1. Request a Proctor Authorization Form from Access Services.
  2. Once approved by department head, submit ITS request for installation of Area Access Manager.
  3. Get trained on Building Access Request Form from Access Services.
  4. Get Area Access Manager Training from Access Services.

Lock Change Request

  • For Residential Housing, work with Residence Life Coordinators to request
  • For Academic, work with Building Proctors to request
  • Padlock removal requires department head permission or Mines Public Safety to be present.

Key Shop Hours:

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 7 a.m. – noon

Wednesday and Thursday 12:30 – 4p.m.

Please have your Blastercard and request number with you when you come to sign for your keys. 

Need to pick up your keys outside of these hours? Call 303-384-2336 to make an appointment to pick up your key(s) weekdays 6:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.

For access emergencies during weekdays, please contact the Facilities Management line: 303-273-3330. 

The 24hour drop box for keys and contractor cards is to the right of the service window at the key shop entrance. No envelope is needed as each key has a unique identifier indicating whom it was checked out to.
