Our Goals

Our project-based team focuses on understanding and leveraging artificial intelligence to improve engineering education. We aim to:

  • Empower First-Year Students: Create an educational package that enables first-year engineering undergraduates to develop AI tools, fostering early engagement with cutting-edge technology.
  • Optimize AI Use in Education: Investigate effective practices for prompt engineering to help students and educators utilize AI tools like ChatGPT more effectively in teaching and learning activities.
  • Enhance Professional Growth Reflection: Develop templates and strategies for individuals and teams to document their work, allowing AI tools to optimally support reflection on their professional development.

 

Our Strategy

Our multidisciplinary team is organized into three sub-teams, each tackling a unique aspect of AI in engineering education:

  1. AI for Product Development: Explore open-source Python libraries from Hugging Face to develop AI tools for engineering education. We aim to integrate AI training into early engineering coursework, building skills around AI development for course projects.
  2. AI for Productivity: Investigate the realm of prompt engineering to determine how students and educators can most effectively utilize AI for teaching and learning. This includes crafting effective prompts for AI tools to enhance productivity and learning outcomes.
  3. AI for Storytelling and Reflection: Apply personal knowledge management (PKM) software like Obsidian to enhance students’ metacognitive understanding of their mindset development. We focus on helping students communicate their experiences and promote the transferable skills acquired throughout their curriculum.
