The ADA regulations do not list all qualifying disabilities, however some examples include:
- Cancer, diabetes, autism or epilepsy
- Deafness or hearing loss
- Blindness or low vision
The ADA may also cover temporary conditions such as disabilities related to pregnancy or limited mobility-related conditions.
Pregnant workers may also be covered by the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). The PWFA prohibits discrimination against pregnant workers and requires reasonable accommodations for qualified employees with limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth and other related conditions. Pregnancy modifications that are not disability related can be requested through the Office for Institutional Equity at oie@mines.edu.
More information about requests for reasonable accommodation for current or prospective Mines employees is available in the ADA Request Procedures for Employees and Job Applicants policy.
