Academic, Research and Library Faculty
All academic, research and library faculty are employees of the school and are governed by Colorado School of Mines policies and procedures. State residency is not a requirement for application. Academic appointments can be tenure or non-tenure track and involve teaching, scholarship and professional service. Research appointments are non-tenured with primary responsibilities that include obtaining research funding, performing research and assisting the direction of graduate student thesis projects.
STAFF POSITIONS (ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY AND CLASSIFIED)
Administrative faculty are employees who are exempt from the Colorado State Personnel System and perform specialized professional duties that are designated by function or title, not academic rank. Administrative faculty are employees of the school and are governed by Colorado School of Mines policies and procedures. State residency is not a requirement for application. Employees in this employment classification are ineligible for tenure.
Classified employees are part of the Colorado State Personnel System, established under the Colorado constitution and governed by State Personnel Board Rules and Procedures. To apply for positions within the personnel system, you must be a current resident of the state.
Temporary Employment
Mines also offers temporary employment which may last a few weeks to a maximum of 9-12 months. Positions may be part-time or full-time and include limited benefits. Current state residency is not a requirement for application.
Student Employment
Many undergraduate students choose to work during their course of study to help with the costs of learning and living while at Mines. Mines departments list on-campus jobs on DiggerNet. Not all jobs require a Colorado or Federal work-study award. Locate more information about undergraduate student employment on the Financial Aid site. OUTSIDE Employment WITH PREFFERED PARTNERS
Sodexo is located on Mines Campus and serves the Mines community. Their on-site services encompass food, facilities management, and workplace and technical management services.
Employees work on Colorado School of Mines campus but are employed by Sodexo.
Conditions of Employment
- Employment at Mines is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background investigation. Every background investigation will include a criminal records history check, including the sex offender registry. All background investigations will be conducted in accordance with Mines policy and the requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and its regulations.
- All new hires must be able to provide proof of work authorization in the United States within three business days of hire. Colorado School of Mines participates in the federal E-Verify program.
- All employees are required to have their paychecks distributed via direct deposit to a checking or savings account.

The Clery Act and Campus Security Report
The Colorado School of Mines Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report contains valuable information for all campus community members. The report is designed to inform you of campus crime and fire statistics and provide security policy statements as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the Clery Act), a federal law requiring institutions of higher education to annually disclose this information.
