Second-Year Housing Application Timeline

Your second year at Mines is all about expanding your independence and deepening your connections. Living on campus keeps you close to your community, your classes, and the opportunities that shape your experience. The second-year housing experience builds on the strong social foundation of your first year by helping you take the next steps in developing your confidence, collaboration, and leadership as you prepare for the academic and professional challenges ahead. 

On-campus living continues to offer the convenience and support that help you thrive, while also encouraging you to grow your networks, strengthen your problem-solving skills, and practice the balance that will serve you well beyond Mines.

Phase I: Complete

February 9, 2026 – February 13, 2026

Begin the Second-Year Housing process by completing the first phase of the application in the Housing Portal. All rising second-year students are required to complete Phase 1 of the Second-Year Housing process.

In Phase I of the application, students will:

  • Review the housing application timeline and its phases
  • Update their personal and emergency contact information
  • Review information about housing accommodations through Disability Support Services (DSS)
  • Review our Renter’s Insurance policy
  • Review a sample Housing Contract
  • Become acquainted with our on-campus communities, including:
    • 1750 Jackson Street
    • Building 7
    • Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH)
  • Indicate their room type preferences

Phase II: Connect

February 19, 2026 – February 26, 2026

In Phase II of the housing application, students will have the opportunity to return to their application and build their Roommate Group. Roommate selection is optional, and students are not required to participate in this process beyond Updating their roommate profile (required).

Roommate Groups can be comprise of four (4) or two (2) total people, depending on your preference and the spaces available. Students who create a Roommate Group will receive the same Room Selection Time Slot as the rest of their group’s members. Roommate Groups will have Group Leaders who are responsible for selecting room assignments for themselves and all of their group members during Room Selection.

Use this time to talk with friends, explore roommate options, and finalize your group before selection begins. Residence Life will also host opportunities to meet potential roommates and learn more about second-year housing communities.

Phase III: Select

February 26: Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) & Students with Housing Accommodations (DSS)

March 2: Four-Person Roommate Groups

March 4: Two-Person Roommate Groups

March 6: Solo Applicants

Room selection timeslots will be assigned randomly. Students who do not complete Phase I of the process will be assigned the latest timeslots.

During their respective timeslots, students will return to their housing application and select their room assignment in their preferred community, as available. Roommate Groups will have Group Leaders who are responsible for selecting room assignments for themselves and all of their group members during Room Selection.

The selection process will take place over a number of days, and a proportionate amount of housing is reserved for each group type to maintain equitable access to available spaces throughout the process. You’ll log in during your assigned timeslot to view real-time availability and secure your space for next year.
