CASA Four-Year Advising
We in CASA have been working hard over the spring and summer on a new advising structure for all undergraduate students at Mines. As a complement to faculty mentoring and part of the Mines@150 strategic plan, CASA will provide advising for all Mines undergraduates from entry through graduation. CASA advisors will provide generalized advising for first-year students and specialized, major-specific advising for continuing students alongside a close and active partnership with academic departments.
We know you may have questions about the details of what this looks like. We have posed some questions below and provided answers to common questions. Our contact information is at the bottom; feel free to contact us with any other questions you have.
What about faculty advising?
One of the main reasons why we are moving to a four-year advising model is to enhance faculty mentorship for all students at Mines. We support and encourage all students to have an active relationship with faculty from the moment they start at Mines. We have supported this through our own Faculty in CASA program and will continue to encourage students to meet with faculty on a regular basis. We want you to see four-year advising in CASA as an added benefit, as you now have one more person who can assist you with understanding academic requirements and to encourage your success at Mines.
What are the details?
We now have two advising teams, one for first-year students and one for upperclass students confirmed in majors. CASA first-year advisors will work with all incoming first-year students by last name and upperclass advisors will work with upperclass students by major. Our two Associate Directors will also work with transfer, returning, and upperclass students. |
