2026 SUMMET PARTICIPANT INFORMATION

The Summer Mines Engineering and Training Program
Undergraduate Admissions

About the Program

The Summer Mines Engineering and Training (SUMMET) Program is an engineering, science, and technology initiative tailored for rising high school seniors who are prospective first-generation college students.

SUMMET combines coursework, hands-on projects, team-building activities and social events. The program provides exposure to the lifestyle, opportunities, and challenges of college and is designed to help build skills and experiences for a smooth transition from high school to college.

The Commitment

SUMMET is a one-week commitment and students are not allowed to go home on visits or to leave campus during the program. If you attend SUMMET and need to leave early for anything other than an emergency, you will be required to pay the amount it costs to attend the one-week program. The approximate cost per student for SUMMET is $2,000. Please make sure you are committed to completing SUMMET before you begin. You were selected to attend SUMMET from a large pool of qualified students and we want to make sure you are completely committed to this opportunity. Please view all links at the bottom of this page and complete all required forms prior to your arrival on campus.

Family is invited to attend, and more information will follow regarding the details of the end-of-program banquet.

Out-of-State Travel Arrangements

Out-of-state students should make arrangements at your own expense to fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) in Denver, Colorado. From the airport, students may utilize a rideshare app or take advantage of Denver’s public transportation (RTD) system. Students would need to purchase a day ticket for the RTD system.

They can typically take the Westbound A line to Union Station and then transfer to the Westbound W line to the Jeffco Government Center Station. From there, take the Colorado School of Mines’ Ore Cart’s Tungsten route to get to campus. As best practice, students should use the RTD’s trip planner to map out the best route the day of.

Please note: utilizing the public transportation from the airport to campus takes upwards of two hours, so please plan flights accordingly to ensure that students arrive on time and have ample time once the program is over at 1pm to get to the airport for their departure.

If you have further questions regarding transportation from or to the airport, please contact Jimmy Pak at jimmy.pak@mines.edu

Computer Use

Please refer to the documents included below concerning the use of Colorado School of Mines computer rooms and internet facilities. During participation in the SUMMET Program, students will be required to use the facilities in a professional manner. No vandalism, profanity or obscenities will be tolerated. Any damage to the facilities by students is the responsibility of the students and their parents.

Parents, please realize that use of the internet cannot be “blocked” to keep your child from browsing inappropriate websites. This practice is strictly prohibited and grounds for termination from the program.

Please sign and return the student computer use agreement form. This signed contract must be on file before being allowed access to the computing center.
